About Booker-Fowler
Booker Fowler Fish Hatchery, located in central Louisiana, is the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries' primary fish production facility. This facility primarily produces freshwater sportfish fingerlings to assist fisheries managers with achieving statewide management objectives.
The Booker Fowler Fish Hatchery Visitors Center is a 4,300 square foot building boasting over 10,000 gallons of aquaria. Native Louisiana fish, reptiles, amphibians, and crustaceans are displayed in the various aquaria in the Visitors Center. A 50-seat theater is located in the Visitors Center for educational programs. The Visitors Center is home to extensive wall murals hand-painted by local artists Gene Dupuis and Paul Wallace. The murals depict natural Louisiana habitats in day, evening and night settings.
Visitors are welcome on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The best time to visit the fish hatchery is from mid-March to mid-May. Those with large parties or school groups should call 318-748-6999 to schedule a tour.
